More details about this service

Your message will be delivered by our volunteers during normal business hours. However, delays in delivery may occur, especially during weekends and holidays. We will make every effort to deliver your message promptly but we cannot guarantee delivery. If a patient has been discharged or we were unable to deliver the message it will be discarded.

The service should not be used for confidential communications and is meant to be used solely as a method of sending encouragement or congratulations to patients in the hospital. Please do not include information of a personal nature or include any medical or diagnostic information. All messages are read and printed by our volunteers.

Inappropriate messages, including business solicitations or messages containing offensive or obscene language, etc. will be discarded at the discretion of the volunteers.

Unfortunately, we can only receive and deliver messages at this time. We are not able to provide a response from the patient or provide outgoing e-mail services for patients. Patients may be contacted directly by telephone by calling the main switchboard at (319) 356-2456. If the patient is allowed by their physician to walk or move around the hospital, there are computers available in the Patient's Library for in-house use of the internet, computer games and e-mail.

For more information on this service, contact the UI Health Care volunteer office.
